About PCRDP

The Council was established in pursuance of Section 5 of the Disabled Persons (Employment & Rehabilitation) Ordinance 1981. It executes the policies made by the National Council for the Rehabilitation of Disabled Persons (NCRDP). PCRDP provides mobility aids such as wheelchairs, tricycles, white canes, hearing aids, and financial assistance to persons with disabilities. It ensures the implementation of a 2% quota in public and private sector organizations reserved for disabled persons and realization of DPR fund in lieu of default.

Activities

• A total of 37,000 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) have received financial assistance of PKR 10,000 each, amounting to PKR 370 million in support..
• A total of 7913 assistive devices have been procured, with distribution currently underway. These include: 2,564 manual wheelchairs, 852 tricycles, 3,613 sewing machines, 54 crutches, 107 walkers, 106 white canes, and 617 hearing aids..
• Additionally, 2,000 electric wheelchairs have been procured and are being distributed to university and college students, as well as government employees, to improve mobility.
• An allocation of PKR 8 million has been made for the establishment of a Braille Academy within the Social Work Department at the University of Peshawar. The Academy provides training for PWDs in braille and computer literacy..
• To enhance special education, 152 teachers have been hired under the PTC Teachers Program, helping to improve the quality of education for PWDs.
• Looking ahead, a future initiative aims to provide interest-free loans of PKR 100,000 to 7,000 PWDs, with a total allocation of PKR 360 million over the next three years, to foster economic independence and improve livelihoods.
