BOLO HELPLINE Social Welfare Department, Special Education and Women Empowerment Department is affirmed to ensure the Women Empowerment in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by establishing Bolo Helpline, Shelters and other Women related centers for marginalized and vulnerable sects of the society. The Department under the umbrella of Women Empowerment and by obliging the national and international commitments has established bolo helpline for the survivors of gender based violence. The said helpline was initially started with an MOU between Aiming change for Tomorrow and Social Welfare Directorate in 2017 with the commitment to incorporate the said center in Annual Development program to make it a sustainable service. Initially all the technical support including human resource was provided by aiming change for Tomorrow to Social Welfare Department. In 2018 ACT handed over Bolo Helpline to Social Welfare Department

Objective

Bolo Helpline aims to provide accessible response services to survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The services include psychological counseling, legal aid and advice, shelter, police protection, and medical aid with the support of a referral mechanism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Main Objectives of the Helpline

  1. To establish an easily accessible centralized Help Line for receiving complaints of Gender-Based Violence, including domestic violence of economic or social character, within the requirement of Section 11(a) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Domestic Violence (Prevention & Protection) Act 2021.
  2. To establish strong referral mechanisms with District Protection Committees within the meaning of Section 04 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Domestic Violence (Prevention & Protection) Act 2021.
  3. To establish referrals with various facilities of the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa established for the protection, relief, rehabilitation, and empowerment of women in the province.
  4. To follow up cases of GBV or domestic violence with District Protection Committees.
  5. To align the Help Line with the Police Department, Help Line 15, Rescue 1122, District Protection Committees for immediate rescue purposes, and Help Lines of other provinces for people residing in other provinces.
  6. To educate and create awareness among women regarding the rights vested in them by Islam, the Constitution, and the general and special substantive and procedural laws.
  7. To develop and maintain authenticated data on Gender-Based Violence in the province under the umbrella of the Government and to utilize the data for informed decision-making.
  8. To increase awareness and sensitization regarding the protection of women against GBV and domestic violence.

ACTIVITIES OF BOLO HELPLINE

Bolo helpline has conducted more than 60 awareness raising sessions were conducted in different communities, Dar-uls-Amans and universities in order to raise awareness about the services of helpline and Gender Based Violence. Moreover, the helpline has celebrated International Women Day, 16 days of Activism, World Mental Health day, National Working Women day etc. Database of the helpline was also launched while celebrating 16 days of activism.
